The Section for Scholarly Relations with Cuba is calling for nominations for leadership positions that will become open as of the LASA Congress in Montreal. The nominations period begins immediately and will close on August 25.
Each nomination must be accompanied by a brief description of the person and his/her academic activities related to Cuba (approximately 50 words). Members of the Elections Committee will then contact nominees to confirm that they are willing to serve, so please be sure to include contact information.
NOTE: Nominations WILL NOT be accepted from the floor at the time of the Section business meeting. Self nominations are welcomed and encouraged. Nominees must be Section members and only Section members can nominate and vote. A list of Section members is attached.
The Section has committed to a leadership composed equally of members inside and outside of Cuba.
The positions to be filled are the following:
Co-Chairs (one-and-a-half year term)
Treasurer-Secretary (three-year term)
Executive Committee (three-year term)
The Executive Committee is composed of four persons, two residents in Cuba and two outside. Because the terms are staggered, only two members of the Committee are elected at each Congress. Those who are currently serving and will continue after Montreal are:
Rafael Hernández Rodríguez (Cuba) Lorena G. Barberia (outside Cuba)
Please send your nominations to one of the following e-mail addresses:
Raúl Fernández: rafernan@uci.edu
Félix Valdéz García: felix@filosofia.cu
Sheryl Lutjens: sheryl.lutjens@nau.edu
